At Holden Lane Primary School, we aim for our pupils to be empowered to make a greater sense of the world by organising and connecting information and ideas about people, places, processes and environments. As pupils progress through the school, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Our curriculum inspires pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Curriculum Statement
Please see the key information documents below.
“They have lots of sunshine in Africa so they can grow mango and bananas. It is too cold here, so we cannot grow them here.”
Nursery
“Wales is connected to England. Scotland is at the top of it. We found the features; a human feature is something that humans made – like a house or a bridge.”
Year 2
“Deforestation is cutting down trees and destroying land. They need to build houses and farms. It takes away oxygen and food for the animals. If you cut down a tree, you could plant one in its place.”
Year 3
“Geography helps us to find out about different countries, we can travel to them and learn about them. I have learned about Spain and I know Spanish.”
Year 4
“In the 1700s, canals were used to transport pottery and now people use them for living and holidays and transport.”
Year 5
“Let me tell you about the whole cycle of water! First of all, it rains – that’s precipitation. Then evaporation! Then condensation – that’s in the clouds. Then the droplets come together and it rains and it all starts again.”
Year 5
“I remember in Year 5, we took part in a river study and learned about the different parts of a river, where it flows, and the materials around a river. Peat stops it from flooding.”
Year 6
“On our river study, we climbed on all the valleys and we saw how the sharp rocks are eroded by the water and turn smooth.”
Year 6
